EGYPT: SOLUTION TO CAIRO-GAZA AIR DISPUTE.

IPR Strategic Business Information Database, February, 2001

Al-Wifaq newspaper quotes from a statement made at the beginning of July 2000 by a source at the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, announcing that Egypt and Israel had set themselves a one-month deadline to resolve the dispute over the Cairo-Gaza air route. The newspaper notes that the row arose from an Israeli contention that Egyptian aircraft en route from Cairo to Gaza were infringing upon its airspace.

The newspaper further notes that regular flights began in December 1999 with a frequency of two flights per week. Israel has security jurisdiction over Gaza Airport, which is located within the Palestinian Authority and was opened in 1998.
