INDIA: PC SALES GROWTH FALLS DUE TO SLOWDOWN.(IDC report)(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

Personal computer (PC) sales in India have been severely hit by the country's current technology slowdown. IDC, the market research company, has stated that India's PC market is to experience a difficult year and a sharp fall in growth. IDC expects the growth rate in desktop computer shipments in 2001-02 to be around 16%.

This figure was a higher 56% in the previous year. IDC reported that in the April to June 2001 quarter, consumer desktop sales grew by only 7.0% year-on-year, compared with 28% in the previous quarter. In addition, commercial desktops grew by 14% year-on-year, compared with 55% in the period between January and March. IDC expects consumer spending to remain depressed throughout 2001-02.
