INDIA: IMF CUTS INDIA'S GROWTH FORECAST FOR 2001.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

International Monetary Fund (IMF) economists have cut their global growth forecast for this year to 2.7%. In April, the IMF's estimate was a higher 3.2%, according to The Tribune. The IMF is preparing the IMF's World Economic Outlook document, which shall be published later this month. Last month IMF economists expected global growth to be 2.8%, whereas this month's prediction is a lower 2.7%.

The IMF expects growth in India to be lower than previously predicted, being 4.5% and 5.7% for 2001 and 2002, down from an April estimate of 5.6% and 6.1% respectively. The IMF expects global growth in 2002 to be 3.6%. In April this expected growth was a higher 3.9%. In addition, the IMF report forecasts US growth to be 1.5% for 2001 and 2.5% for 2002. -(EMEconomy.com)
