CHINA: CHINA UNICOM REPORTS $280 MILLION FIRST HALF PROFITS.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

China Unicom is capitalizing on the rapid growth of the mainland's cellular market. High subscriber growth helped the Company report record net profits of 2.19 billion yuan ($280 million) up from 171 million yuan ($21 million) year on year, on revenues up 29.6 percent to 13.62 billion yuan ($1.65 billion).

The majority of the Company's revenues were from its cellular business which brought in sales of 9.45 billion yuan, up 79.8 per cent from a year earlier. Long distance, data, and Internet business revenues reached 1.37 billion yuan. Average revenue per mobile user (ARPU) dropped 33 percent to 92.5 yuan per month (US$11.17). -(World IT Report)
