The Russian media on 12 September were filled with stories about the terrorist attacks on the United States. Some of the stories, as in "Kommersant-Daily," suggested that similar things could happen in Russia. Others, in the same paper, suggested that the U.S. had trained the terrorists involved.

And still a third theme, in "Komsomolskaya Pravda" for instance, suggested that the U.S. should now be more understanding of Russia's fight in Chechnya.
