CHINA: LG TO INVEST $45 MILLION IN CHINESE CDMA HANDSET JOINT VENTURE.(LG Electronics Inc.'s Langchao LG Digital Mobile Communication)(Brief Article)

South Korea's electronics major, LG Electronics (LGE), said it plans to invest $45 million in its Shangdong Province CDMA handset joint venture, to promote research and development into CDMA equipment, production, sales and after-sale service in China. The venture, named Langchao LG Digital Mobile Communication, has an annual production capacity of 1.5 million units.

LGE has invested $15 million in the plant so far. LGE claims the venture is the first Korean-Sino joint venture to manufacture CDMA handsets. The venture was set up in March last year, with three domestic companies - Langchao Electronic Information Industry Group Corp., Cherry S/W and Yan Tai Development Zone Distribution Center.
