On Saturday, United States President George W. Bush and his French counterpart, Jacques Chirac, exchanged views on the Middle East and Asia during a telephone conversation described by the White House as routine, according to AFP. The 25-minute conversation initiated by Chirac was "another in a series of their regular contacts," White House spokesman Sean McCormack told reporters.

"They spoke about the situation in the Middle East, specifically about the situation with Israelis and the Palestinians," McCormack added. "Then, President Bush also briefed President Chirac on his trip to Asia." Bush returned from his three-nation Asia tour, which included visits in Japan, South Korea and China, on Friday.
