MEXICO: CANON PLANS TO CLOSE MEXICAN PLANT, 417 JOB TO BE LOST.(Brief Article)

Canon Inc, the Japanese manufacturer of printers and computer peripherals, has announced that it plans to close and liquidate its ink-jet printer factory in Mexico by the end of May. This move will result in 417 job losses. Canon stated that it decided to close the plant in order to improve efficiency in its ink-jet printer business.

The company added that it's two other overseas ink-jet printer factories, in Thailand and in Vietnam, are to remain open. Canon manufactures printers and other computer peripherals. The company makes copiers, fax machines, scanners, and optical products used in semiconductor manufacturing, broadcasting, and medical equipment. In addition, Canon makes cameras, camcorders and liquid-crystal display (LCD) projectors. -(EMEconomy.com)
