INDIA: AP RICE EXPORTS HIT - REPORT.
IPR Strategic Business Information Database, March, 2002
According to "Business Line", Andhra Pradesh, the prime rice-producing State in the country, has fared poorly in exports this year (2001-2002) and exporters are preferring Punjab rice for exports, even though FCI godowns in the State are bulging with stocks. It is estimated that either through the Government agencies or the private exporters only 2-3 lakh tons of rice may have been exported this year from the State, through the Kakinada port, as against the ambitious target of 2 million tons or so.
