RUSSIA: GAZPROM'S NET PROFITS FALL.(Brief Article)

Gazprom, the Russian natural gas monopoly, has announced that in the first nine months of 2001 its net profits fell by US$205 million year on year to US$1.101 billion, according to Interfax. The company stated that its operating income in the nine-month period rose to US$5.559 billion from US$3.877 billion in the same period in the year 2000, according to the Moscow Times.
Gazprom, Russia's largest company, produces 94% of Russia's natural gas and controls 25% of the world's gas reserves. Gazprom is also the world's largest gas producer. The company specializes in gas exploration, processing, transportation, and marketing.
