RUSSIA: ALCATEL, SVYAZINVEST FORM JOINT VENTURE.(Brief Article)

Alcatel and Svyazinvest have signed a Memorandum of Understanding establishing a joint venture to manufacture optical fiber in Russia. This makes Alcatel, the world leader in optical networking, the first Western company planning to manufacture high-technology fiber with a Russian partner for the booming Russian telecommunications market.
Svyazinvest accounts for a significant amount of optical-fiber purchases in Russia because it includes several Russian service providers and the largest long-distance carrier, Rostelekom. Valerii Yashin, general manager of Svyazinvest, explained, "Our main goal is to provide high-quality telecom services to our users.
