Al-Bayan newspaper quoted a report published in mid-March 2002 by the UAE Airline Company concerning the purchase of jet engines for the airplanes. The paper noted that the company purchased engines, type G.B. 7200, suitable for the Airbus 380A planes owned already, at a cost of $1.5 billion.

The paper noted that the engine purchase was carried out as part of the plan to expand the UAE fleet of planes till year 2010 at a cost of $15 billion.
