MEXICO: CIENA WILL SUPPLY FIBER OPTIC EQUIPMENT TO TELMEX.(Brief Article)

The American manufacturer of Telecommunications equipment Ciena Corp. announced on Tuesday on a press release that it would supply networking gear to the Mexican telephone company Telefonos de Mexico (Telmex) for its next-generation phone network. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is Ciena's first deal with Telmex.

Steve Levy, Financial analyst for Lehman Brothers, estimates the value of the agreement between 20 and 40 million dollars. Gary Smith, Ciena's CEO, said last month that if they could make some deals with two or three of the big telephone operators it would represent a big difference to them.
