CHINA: CHINA UNICOM'S PROFITS UP 2.7 PERCENT.

China's second largest mobile phone operator China Unicom said its first half net profit edged up 2.7 percent in a stronger-than-expected result buoyed by strong sales growth. The net profit of 2.25 billion yuan (US$470 million) for the six months to June was up from 2.19 billion yuan reported a year earlier, the firm said in a statement.
The Company's sales soared 32.1 percent to 17.99 billion yuan from 13.62 billion yuan and operating profit rose to 3.44 billion yuan from 2.63 billion yuan.
