SOUTH KOREA: MOBILE PHONE MANUFACTURER UNVEILS WIRETAP-FREE CELL PHONES.(Pantech & Curitel)(Brief Article)

IPR Strategic Business Information Database, February, 2003

Pantech & Curitel, a mid-sized mobile phone manufacturer in South Korea, unveiled a pair of new mobile phones this week that are intended to be free from wiretapping. The wiretap-free phones, developed by Pohang University of Science and Technology professor Lee Phil-joong, also come with thin film transistor screens and 40 polyphonic ring tones.

However, the Ministry of Information and Communication and mobile operators have argued it is impossible to tap mobile calls based on code division multiple access (CDMA) technology because of the highly sophisticated encryption system used in transmitting voice communications. - (World IT Report.com)
