IRAN: EL-BARADEI, IAEA OFFICIALS VISIT IRAN.(International Atomic Energy Agency)

International Atomic Energy Agency Director-General Mohammad el-Baradei arrived in Iran on 21 February to inspect Iran's nuclear facilities, Iranian state radio reported, and he left the next day after meeting with President Khatami, Parliament Speaker Karrubi, and Expediency Council Chairman Ayatollah Hashemi-Rafsanjani. El-Baradei was expected to be accompanied by IAEA Deputy Director-General Pierre Goldschmidt, as well as Holli Heinonen, the director of the agency's division of safeguards, who is responsible for Iran. El-Baradei is expected to urge officials there to sign an "additional protocol," supported by the European Union, that would allow the IAEA to increase monitoring of Iran's nuclear operations, according to AFP on 19 February.
