EUROPE: HP OVERTAKES PALM IN HANDHELDS, SAYS IDC.(Brief Article)

According to the latest preliminary market data released by IDC, the mobile device market in Western Europe grew by 32% in 3Q03, with more than 1.3 million units shipped during 3Q03. Both the handheld device (traditional standalone PDA) market and the converged device (smartphone and phone-enabled handheld) market saw an increase in unit shipments.
Growth is in line with IDC expectations and handheld device shipments for the full calendar year 2003 remain on track to be the first year of growth since 2000.
