YEMEN: AUTHORITIES PREVENT HOLDING OF DIVISIVE CELEBRATIONS.(Ghadir Day )(Brief Article)

According to IINA, the authorities in Yemen have disallowed the holding of what is known as Ghadir Day, in the three concerned provinces of the republic. A responsible official said that the main reason for stopping the holding of this celebration is a religious one, in that the practice is contrary to the teachings of Islam.

He said the practice also incites sectarian sensitivities and could thus affect the unity of the country. The three relevant provinces are Sa'adah, Hajja, and Omran, all of them in the north of the country, and the Ghadir Day is celebrated on Dhul Hijja 18, during which the participants demonstrate their love and support for Imam Ali bin Abu Talib (may Allah be pleased with him).
