LIBYA: LEADER GHADAFI SLAMS FIFA.
IPR Strategic Business Information Database, June, 2006
According to online press (June 15, 2006), Libyan leader Colonel Moammar Al-Ghadafi has slammed FIFA for not supporting poor countries. Ghadafi said "According to FIFA rules, no poor country will ever be able to host the World Cup and poor people are not even able to enjoy the pleasure of watching its games".
FIFA has sold the exclusive TV rights of the Middle East region of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 world cup finals to the pan Arab channel ART which is a cable channel that would only allow it's viewers to watch the finals in Germany in return for high subscription fees. "Even broadcasting it through radio and television has been monopolized. The poor will not attend it nor see it, nor hear it nor read it!"
