Xilinx Inc., San Jose, Calif., is being awarded a $23,424,000 firm-fixed-price contract. This action provides for research and development to produce a radiation hardened by (RHBD) implementation of a fully functional multi-million gate single-event effects immune reconfigurable field-programmable ate array (FPGA) (SIRF) by introducing radiation hardening within their existing architecture and design methodology.

This implementation is to be based on Xilinx newly released Virtex-5 family of FPGA's using the latest 65 nm technology. The proposed effort involves research of the individual logic blocks that comprise the FPGA to determine susceptible elements and migrate against single effects (SEU).
