EGYPT: REPUBLICAN DECREE TO ALLOCATE 300,000 FEDDANS FOR POWER GENERATION.

According to Egypt State Information Service: Minister of Electricity and Energy Hassan Yunis said 300,000 feddans of State-owned land have been allocated for wind-operated power generation in the Gulf of Suez in accordance with a republican decree. In statements in Cairo Saturday 13/6/2009, the minister said the projects will be carried out either by the Renewable Energy Authority or investors by B.O.T.
system. The allocation comes as part of the State's efforts to offer lands for implementing its plan to have 20 per cent of the total generated electricity by 2020 from wind energy, he added. The lands are located in the Gulf of Suez area, southern Zaafarana, which is the most suitable area based on the Wind Atlas, he added.
