After eight years as a non-profit research institute on the cutting edge of alternative energy development, the University of Ottawa's Electrochemical Science and Technology Centre is becoming a commercial venture. A new company - ESTCO Energy Inc./Energie ESTCO Inc. - is being created through an agreement between the University and Battery Technologies Inc., (BTI), a firm based in Richmond Hill, ON.
ESTCO Energy Inc. will conduct advanced research and development (R&D) for batteries and other types of electrochemical energy conversion and storage, with an emphasis on the development of practical electric vehicles (EV).
