Dow & Union Carbide Merge.

A leading polyethylene and ethylene glycol producer in Canada was created on February 7,2001, when The Dow Chemical Company announced the completion of its merger with Union Carbide Corporation.

"The structure of the new company will forge together a significant Canadian industrial capacity for polyethylene and ethylene glycol," said Dennis Lauzon, president and chief executive officer, Dow Chemical Canada Inc. "The vast majority of the output of polyethylene and ethylene glycol will be exported, primarily to Asia and the United States, fulfilling one of Canada's key objectives of upgrading and adding value to its key natural resources."
