Rhodia and Asahi in Korean adipic acid venture.

PARIS/TOKYO--Rhodia SA and Asahi Kasei have signed an adipic acid manufacturing deal which covers a joint investment to increase the capacity of Rhodia's adipic acid unit in Onsan, South Korea by 65 kilotonnes per annum.
Under the agreement, Asahi will hold rights to 50 ktpa in the new capacity, which will come on stream in the fourth quarter of 2002, said a joint Asahi/Rhodia announcement. Adipic acid is a feedstock for polyester urethanes, among other applications.
The deal will also see Asahi invest in its cyclohexanol plant at Mizushima, Japan, to enable it to supply the feedstock for Rhodia's adipic acid production in Onsan.
