Although cold-cure moulded foams dominate in the manufacture of automotive seat cushions in Korea, they suffer from one major drawback: the presence of a high proportion of closed cells. While these cells can be readily opened by techniques such as mechanical crushing or by subjecting the cushions produced to a vacuum, this involves extra production equipment and time and can also result in some reduction in physical properties.

The hot-cure system is only used in Korea to make some seat backs and, despite the above-mentioned drawbacks, the use of the cold-cure process in making foam seat cushions is increasing because it uses less energy.
