Uzbek fridge JV.(refrigerator plant to get refurbished)(Brief Article)

Urethanes Technology, August, 2002

LONDON--The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the World Bank are jointly supporting a $76.9 million privatisation project to refurbish a refrigerator plant in Uzbekistan.

The project is led by Arsin, a new joint venture between Sino, an Uzbek state-owned fridge manufacturer, and Arcelik, Turkey's largest appliance maker.

Earlier an EBRD-sponsored study found that the Uzbek fridge plant was in serious breach of environmental, health and safety legal requirements. This included a polyurethane line utilising ozone-depleting Freon R11 in breach of international conventions.
