BRUSSELS -- The European Commission has conditionally cleared Zeon Corp. and Teijin Corp. both of Tokyo, to set up a joint venture in the field of dicyclopentadiene reaction injection moulding (DCPD RIM).

Under the JV plan, the Japanese firms will combine most of their global activities in the production of DCPD RIM formulations and DCPD mouldings.

The groups are the only suppliers in Europe for DCPD systems, which can be processed on standard polyurethane RIM equipment. The Japanese Fair Trade Commission cleared the deal on 29 April.

The Brussels clearance is subject to the parties' disposal of Teijin's interests in Metton America Inc. (MAI), which is also active in DCPD RIM. Zeon and Teijin have agreed to this measure, which will avoid any...
