Some 40 million homes in America subscribe to cable television. Among the most profitable channels are those that air so-called adult entertainment One provider of such "sexually explicit" and "indecent" content, the Playboy Entertainment Group, airs several channels devoted exclusively to adult entertainment, earning the firm millions of dollars in pay-per-view and monthly subscription revenues.

Within the 40 million cable-wired homes are some 29 million children, many of whom are sometimes home alone. Without parental supervision, they could easily tune in these channels or be unintentionally exposed to adult programming.
