The events of September 11, 2001, have changed the lives of every American. They have definitely changed the lives of the men and women who monitored the radars and, horror-stricken, witnessed firsthand the four airliners crash into the World Trade Center towers, the Pentagon, and a Pennsylvania field that fateful morning.

Almost 1,800 miles away from the sites of the terrorist attacks, a military group scrutinized the radar screens before them. They maintained a constant vigil for any possible threat against North America. Their mission statement was to watch for and detect any airborne perils originating from outside the boundaries of the continent.
