Aventis Pharmaceuticals (Bridgewater, NJ; 908-243-6579), the United States pharmaceutical business of Aventis Pharma AG, issued the following statement concerning an antitrust lawsuit filed against the company in the State of Michigan by the Attorneys General of sixteen states and the District of Columbia.

This lawsuit, which alleges that Aventis and Andrx unlawfully collaborated to keep a cheaper generic version of Cardizem CD (diltiazem HCl) off the market, is without merit. It relates to the same facts investigated by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in two separate investigations conducted over the past three years. The second of these investigations was resolved by the entry of a consent order that did not require Aventis to make any monetary payment....
