Symmetry responds to Ingenix lawsuit.(Symmetry Health Data Systems, Inc., patented Episode Treatment Groups (ETG) software)(Brief Article)

BIOTECH Patent News, June, 2001

Symmetry Health Data Systems, Inc. (Phoenix, AZ; 602-277-9530), developers of the patented Episode Treatment Groups (ETG) software, responded to a lawsuit filed by Ingenix, Inc., saying they believe the countersuit is baseless. Since 1995, Ingenix or its affiliates have used Symmetry's ETGs as a licensed component of their products. Symmetry has terminated Ingenix's license to use Symmetry's ETGs.

Symmetry believes the Ingenix suit was filed in retaliation for a patent infringement lawsuit filed by Symmetry on July 25, 2000 (United States District Court for the District of Arizona, case # CIV2000-1411 PHX EHC). In that suit, Symmetry claimed Ingenix had engaged in patent infringement, breach of con-tract and trade secret misappropriation.
