The neurosciences will prove to be a huge cash cow for hospitals during the next decade or two. Indeed, many institutions are already benefiting greatly from advances in the treatment of neurological diseases and from their investments in creating major neuroscience centers of excellence.

Among the many positives for neuroscience programs is the increasing demand for a number of profitable segments within the field, particularly because of an aging population and advances in surgical and medical technology. Moreover, direct competition from physician groups and specialty hospitals is currently still minimal, even as hospitals continue to lose market share for traditional cardiology and orthopedics services.
