BJC HealthCare in St. Louis went to the police in its quest for expansion space.

In late June, BJC placed under contract the 16-acre headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol for an estimated $8 million.

BJC said in a statement that it does not have immediate plans to build on the site but purchased the land for future space needs.

As population in the St. Louis area has grown in recent years, BJC has made efforts to expand its capacity and build new facilities. In 2003, the integrated delivery network opened a new $5.7 million outpatient surgery center at Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital in Creve Coeur, MO, and construction has begun on the $75 million, 72-bed Progress West HealthCare Center in O'Fallon, MO.
