The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AlChE; New York) has agreed to acquire the American Chemical Society's (ACS; Washington, D.C.) 50 per cent interest in "Biotechnology Progress." No terms of the deal were given.

In taking full ownership of the journal, which it founded in 1985, AlChE will end its co-publishing arrangement with ACS and partner with Wiley-Blackwell (New York). AlChE will retain ownership and editorial controlk of the publication, which will also become the official publication of the AlChE's Society for Biological Engineering.

The new partnership between Wiley-Blackwell and AlChE begins with the July issue of the journal. "Biotechnology Progress" is published six times a year and carries research reports, reviews and descriptions of emerging techniques for the development and design of new processes, products and devices for the biotechnology and bioprocessing industries. Content includes information on the application of chemical and engineering principles in fields such as kinetics, transport phenomena, control theory, modeling, cellular biology, genetics, biochemistry, tissue engineering, biosensors and applied microbiology. An annual subscription costs $152 for AlChE members.

Since 2004, Wiley has published the monthly "AlChE Journal," "Environmental Progress" and "Process Safety Progress," both published quarterly, as well as a portfolio of AlChE books. AlChE also publishes "Chemical Engineering Progress" a monthly.

ACS publishes nearly 40 journals, including such titles as "Energy & Fuels," "Journal of the American Chemical Society" and "Journal of Medicinal Chemistry."
