Advanstar Comm. acquires "Salon News" from Fairchild

Business Publisher, Nov 30, 2002

Advanstar Communications (Boston, MA) has acquired Salon News magazine from Fairchild Publications (New York). No terms of the deal, which also includes the Look Book, a consumer beauty and fashion magazine edited for the beauty salon client, were given.

Salon News was launched by Fairchild in 1993. It is published monthly with a controlled circulation of 77,000 beauty salon owners and managers, salon industry distributors and advertisers. Editorial includes case studies of successful salon operators and information on such topics as operations and management, advertising, taxes, and related business subjects.

The title becomes a part of Advanstar's International Beauty Group, a unit that produces American Salon and American Spa magazines and three related shows, including the "International Beauty Show." Advanstar chairman/ceo Robert Krakoff said the deal further expands "our position and service to this dynamic industry."

Advanstar said that its plans for the future of the title were under consideration. "We are in the process of collaborating with Salon News and American Salon readers and advertisers to determine the best strategy going forward," Beauty Group general manager Rob Ingraham said.
