MetLife Inc.said it launched life insurance operations in China through a partnership with a Chinese company that owns airports and hotels, among other businesses.

The Beijing-based joint-venture company, Sino-U.S. MetLife Insurance Co. Ltd., plans to sell life insurance and savings products to individuals through a career agency distribution system and other distribution channels, said MetLife spokesman John Calagna. Agents will provide customized financial plans for customers, including plans for education funding, retirement and protection.
