MetLife Inc.said it launched life insurance operations in China through a partnership with a Chinese company that owns airports and hotels, among other businesses.
The Beijing-based joint-venture company, Sino-U.S. MetLife Insurance Co. Ltd., plans to sell life insurance and savings products to individuals through a career agency distribution system and other distribution channels, said MetLife spokesman John Calagna. Agents will provide customized financial plans for customers, including plans for education funding, retirement and protection.
Calagna said that for now, the joint venture would sell in Beijing only. "Right now, we have about 40 telemarketers in place and ready to start selling," said Calagna. "We will be looking to supplement that with...
