The board of directors of MetLife unanimously elected president and chief operating officer C. Robert Henrikson to the board of directors as chairman and chief executive officer. Henrikson will succeed Robert Benmosche, who announced in December 2005 his intentions to retire as chief executive officer on March 1, 2006, and as chairman on April 25, 2006, following the company's annual shareholder meeting.
Henrikson has spent the past 33 years with MetLife, and has held numerous executive positions. His most recent posts with the company include being president of MetLife's U.S. Insurance and Financial Services business from 2002 to 2004.
