In a climate-controlled room on the 20th floor of the Grosvenor Center is the heart of GTE Mobilnet's cellular communication system. A mammoth switching computer hums constantly, processing thousands of calls a minute. In Mililani, where rival Honolulu Cellular has its main switching office, the quiet scene repeats itself. Neither belies the heated competition that has pushed exponential growth in Oahu's cellular communications market.
