If you have cable television in Hawaii, you're almost certainly a Time Warner customer. The media giant now controls nearly all of Hawaii's cable connections. And if Time Warner has its way, that's only the beginning.
On a Wednesday morning early last September, as Hawaii residents woke up to Portuguese sausage breakfasts and the gleam of morning news anchor bridge work, Time Warner Inc. quietly gained control of virtually every home with cable television in the state. Save for a couple of stories in the dailies, the decision made in the mainland corporate boardrooms of Time Warner and TeleCommunications Inc. to exchange several of their smaller cable markets nationwide went virtually unnoticed here. That wasn't the case on the mainland.
