It doesn't bother Bob Hiam much that the view from the 11th floor of his Keeaumoku office will soon include a brand-new Wal-Mart and Sam's Club. "At least I'll be able to tell how busy it is around Christmas," he says, chuckling. During his 50- to 60-hour works weeks, Hiam rarely glances out that window anyway, and seldom has time to even wander onto his office lanai, which faces Punchbowl.
When Hiam needs a break from heading the largest health care provider in the state, he takes a deep breath. Then, he focuses his attention on the large, framed photograph hanging on one wall: an Oahu waterfall (not pictured) snapped by Steve and Jim Kastner. The artwork is one of a pair of pieces in his office shot by the landscape photographers.
