One of the nice things about running a business with your brother is that, sometimes, difficult decisions can be made with a coin toss. Shortly after Jody Brotman and her brother, Charles, co-founded the Big Island record label, Palm Records, the challenge of choosing their official titles was getting a little out of hand. "Charles kept insisting that I should be president, and I said 'I'm brand, spanking new in the music business; I think you should be president,'" Jody remembers. "So we decided to flip a coin." Charles lost the toss, and became Palm Records' first president. Jody got vice president.
