Abstract

The effects of oriented strandboard (OSB) furnish properties, including strand length, width, thickness, and surface orientation, on the concentrated static load (CSL) and other mechanical properties of OSB were evaluated using a mixed level experimental design. The effects of board density and fines content were also investigated. Laboratory panels, 711 mm by 711 mm by 11 mm (28 in by 28 in by 7/16 in), were prepared with the specified variables and tested for CSL deflection and ultimate load. Samples cut from undamaged portions of the panels were evaluated for bending modulus of rupture (MOR), modulus of elasticity (MOE) (3-point bending), and shear strength (5-point bending).
