Procter & Gamble has sold its Mary Quant cosmetics brand to Mary Quant Cosmetics Japan Ltd. The Japanese company currently markets a prestige Mary Quant line of its own, rather than P&G's volume-positioned brand, and is likely to extend distribution of this internationally in the future.
Procter & Gamble (Cosmetics & Fragrances) Ltd is currently working with retailers to manage the wind-down of the current Mary Quant cosmetics brand and will do so for a three-month period. Thereafter, the new holders of the worldwide rights to the name are expected to continue phasing out the existing line-up.
Plans for the debut of the upmarket Japanese line are unconfirmed as yet and it is likely that there will be a period when a Mary Quant brand will not be available at...
