Ad networks adjust to slowdown; 24/7 Media, DoubleClick remain confident amid layoffs, cutbacks.(Brief Article)(Statistical Data Included)

Despite recent and planned layoffs by online ad networks, executives in the business still have confidence in the network model and are hiring more senior people to help them better manage operations. If anything, the weak economy is driving a need for older, seasoned executives who have been through a down market and survived.

``The Internet has been a huge network of 25-year-old salespeople who have never been in a process where selling was involved,'' said Bob Colvin, president of international for 24/7 Media Inc., which is planning to downsize its current staff to a level that supports current Internet spending. He would not say how many jobs will be eliminated. Last week, 24/7's president-COO, David Metner, stepped down from his posts.
