To the editor:

In the wake of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, we have seen horrific destruction and devastation met with unparalleled determination and giving. As an industry, we can be proud of our response to our customers and their patients.

Through these dark days, we have been inspired by many acts of kindness and courage, but one story deserves greater attention.

Irma Campanella was on her way to work early September 23. As part of the Dallas branch of the Hurricane Preparedness Team for Medline Industries, she had been working around the clock for weeks, making sure that hospitals and nursing homes received desperately needed medical supplies.

Her regular route to work was jammed with evacuation traffic, so Irma veered off...
