GTI to build pipeline coatings facility.

The Gas Technology Institute (GTI) plans to construct a major new facility for testing the wide variety of protective coatings applied in the field to buried steel pipelines. The nearly $1 million facility will include a field site for in-ground accelerated short-term and long-term testing of full-size pipeline sections, plus a laboratory for detailed analysis of pipe and coating specimens.
"The natural gas industry faces pressure from deregulation and increased competition, making it vital to reduce operating costs while maintaining safe pipeline operation," said Daniel Ersoy, materials scientist in GTI's Technology Group.
