Although the U.S. economy, is currently experiencing a slowdown, the economy is expected To recover by mid-year and increase at an average annual rate of 3.0 percent through 2020, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Annual Energy Outlook 2002.

Supporting this is an earlier study from the same agency that predicted a strong increase in domestic natural gas pipeline construction over The next four years. According to this study, the nation's natural gas pipeline network has grown substantially since 1990, with more than 20 Bcf/d of interregional capacity (a 27-percent increase) added through the end of 2000.
