Congress hears alerts of impending NG supply crisis. (Washington Watch).

While it may only be a temporary decline, the drop in the number of natural gas wells drilled this year has Congress worrying about natural gas supplies. The House Resources subcommittee on energy and mineral resources heard some dire predictions on July 16 from a number of sources. Perhaps the most pessimistic analysis came from Matthew Simmons, president of Simmons & Company International, an investment banking firm that has specialized exclusively in energy investment banking and energy research. Simmons served on the National Petroleum Council and was the Demand Task Force chairman for the NPC's 2000 report on the future challenges facing natural gas.
