First look: developing shoring alternatives.

Researchers at the Gas Technology Institute (GTI) are working with utility industry leaders to develop innovative alternatives to conventional shoring methods.

Appropriate shoring is a critical--and sometimes expensive--element in many common utility operations. To provide proper worker protection and adherence to requirements of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), utilities employ a variety of shoring methods, ranging from simple timber shoring to complicated hydraulically driven systems.

In recent years, the natural gas industry has turned to GTI to help evaluate today's shoring options and develop lower-cost alternative shoring methods.
