NTT DoCoMo, Rakuten team up to start online auction company.(JAPAN)(Brief Article)

NTT DoCoMo Inc. of Japan and online shopping-mall operator Rakuten Inc. agreed to join forces and establish an Internet auction company. By combining the companies' online user bases, Rakuten and mobile-phone operator DoCoMo hope to compete with the top Japanese provider of online auction services, Yahoo Japan Corp.
Rakuten Chief Executive Hiroshi Mikitani said the deal will allow users to access online auctions through mobile phones and personal computers.
Members of Rakuten's online services total about 17.3 million, while DoCoMo's "i-mode" Internet-service users total about 45 million.
